Current Status: As we present this report, Bishop’s Associate Pr. Nancy Feniuk Nelson and the Synod staff are preparing a list of names of Pastors interested in interviewing at Good Shepherd. We will get this list at any time, and begin scheduling interviews.

While it looks as if there is no activity when seen from our perspective, the Synod has been working diligently on our behalf. After sifting through their list of Pastors available for call, they have identified people who are potentially a close fit, based on the Ministry Site Profile we prepared. Each Pastor must then be contacted and issued an invitation to interview. Pastors that agree to be interviewed are added to the list. We will be given a list of between 3 and 5 names.

Call Process Overview: Here is a quick overview of how the call process unfolds from here:

• The Office of the Bishop will submit names of three to five candidates for interview by the Call Committee.
• The Call Committee will contact each candidate and schedule an interview. No candidate shall be released without an interview, and all interviews will be completed within a 30 day period.
• If none of the candidates are considered suitable, the Call Committee shall notify them they are no longer being considered for call. Additional candidates would then be requested from the Office of the Bishop.
• When the Call Committee identifies a suitable candidate, they notify the Church Council and arrange a Congregation Meeting to vote on extending a call. Meanwhile, the Council develops a compensation package.
• The Congregation votes to extend a call by written ballet, with 2/3 majority of those voting members present required. If the vote to extend the call is affirmative, the Congregation must approve by written ballot the compensation and benefits package by a simple majority vote.
• The Bishop attests to the call, and then forwards it on to the candidate.
• The candidate has 30 days to accept the call.
• All parties involved work out a date for installation, and the beginning of the new ministry.
• If the call is not accepted, the process resumes with the Call Committee interviewing further candidates.

In Closing: Your Call Committee continues to ask for your prayers as we move through this process.  We understand that we are all anxious to move on with the call process so that we can begin an exciting new chapter. However, we also recognize that this is happening in God’s time, and not ours. We move through the process full in the knowledge that God, through his abounding love, has planned a bright and special future for His Salinas family, and the Call Committee is honored to be a part of this.
