PROJECTS:


DOROTHY'S PLACE  We partner with First Presbyterian Church to provide a noon meal on the 4th Sunday of each month.  Ida Nuttall faithfully coordinates this project.  Our thanks to her and to all who donate cookies and sandwiches, and to those who serve the hungry folks at Dorothy's Place.  More volunteers are needed and are most welcome!

I-HELP   (Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program)
Various groups from Good shepherd host a hot evening meal and breakfast to the I-HELP men on the 2nd Friday of each month.  These homeless men are in transition as they look for housing and employment. Elaine and Wyman Ketterling head up this program for Good Shepherd and spend countless hours doing so.   Our thanks to them and to all who help!

WOMEN ALIVE          This program serves single homeless women at Dorothy's Place.  Good Shepherd helps provide a hot evening meal twice each month on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays.  Thanks to Stasia Bevier and Lynn Willis for coordinating this program for our church.  Volunteers are always needed for this important service.

MONTEREY COUNTY FOOD BANK This has been an astounding year for contributions to the Food Bank from Good Shepherd.  Several barrels of non-perishable food were collected at various times during the year, and in 2010, we collected $1983.25.  Each dollar donated will buy $8.00 of food so that means the Food Bank was able to buy and distribute over $15,000 worth of food for the many in our community who are hungry.  THANK YOU TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED!!

FAIR TRADE PRODUCTS          Wyman and Elaine Ketterling head up this program that offers coffee and chocolate products for sale the 1st Sunday of each month.  Profits bypass the "middleman" and benefit the growers in Central American countries. 

ANGEL TREE    The Angel Tree - a program we sponsor in December of each year, provides Christmas gifts to the children of incarcerated  parents.  Martha Thompson coordinates this worthy project for our church.

WORLD HUNGER AND DISASTER     This ELCA project collects cash donations for hungry and suffering people in all parts of the world.  We sponsor this program once a year.

STRENGTH FOR SERVICE   Dorothy Walker coordinates this program to provide devotional materials to members of the United States Armed Forces both at home and abroad.  We have a donation drive each year in May.

EYEGLASSES  and USED CLOTHING         We collect used eyeglasses and clothing  to be donated to the needy. 

COSMETIC  ITEMS           There is a basket in the narthex for Cosmetic items to be given to WOMEN ALIVE and I-HELP.  When you have extras from motels/hotels think about saving those items for this project.  Elaine Ketterling coordinates.
